I really enjoyed reading this story. The story was well written and the characters were HOT!! This was the first book of Ana J. Phoenix's that I have had the pleasure of reading and I wil be reading more. This book definitely had everything you want and need in a story. It will leave you panting after the sex scenes, you will be angry at times, you will wanna give big hugs, you will wanna weep. Yep like I said you get a little of everything in the awesome read.I loved the characters of Nex and Kane. Kane was for sure all hot and sexy as can be. I was instantly swooning and connecting with his character. He personifies this strength but yet is still a little mysterious with his emotions. Nex was just this young man who had witnessed a horrific ordeal and sorta left to survive the best he could. I seriously wanted to be his teddy bear so I could cuddle him everynight. Now could he be a bit of a brat...absolutely and I wanted to strangle him at times. What can I say he managed to win a big place in my heart!!
I won't go into a lot of details because I don't want to spoil it for you. I can tell you this book has some serious angst in it also from addiction to suicide. Ana J. Phoenix manages to entwine all of this in an amazing read and wonderful love story. I enjoyed this ride immensely and you will too so go ONE-CLICK now. I know you will enjoy it.

I really enjoyed Lab Rat's Love and it's flawed characters brought together by tragedy and the held together by need, by want, by desire.
The story introduces us to the always-in-control Kane and the careening-out-of-control Nex. Kane is barely coping after the death of his business partner and best friend, Styx. Nex, Styx's estranged twin brother, quiets his demons with drugs, sex and gambling. When Kane needs Nex to test his company's prototype sex chip, and Nex needs money to support his drug habit, the two come to a business arrangement. We watch as these two very different men struggle to come to terms with the real feelings that begin to emerge.
I thought this was going to be a slightly kinky, techie/sci fi story, what with the sex chip and all. But at its center, this is a character-driven love story. But not a "pretty hearts and flowers" one. This is a story about the messy side of love guilt, trust, fear, mistrust, passion, shame, hope, uncertainty and strength. There were times my heart broke a little for Nex, so damaged by his past, held hostage by an addicted present and abandoned by so many. And for Kane, who was so afraid of love, he couldn't admit to himself how he felt about the most important person in his life. And Styx... well no spoilers, but he saddened and angered me.
This was a good story, one that took an unexpected direction and offered up in-depth characters and a nuanced story.

Lab Rat's Love is so much more than I thought it would be. I was expecting something along the lines of hot and smexy with a little sci-fi tech thrown in. Don't get me wrong it is that but dang it's so much more. Ms. Phoenix gave us a nice complex storyline to follow. She takes on childhood tragedy, gambling, substance abuse, death, a little mental illness, and love.
Kane has just lost his best-friend, business partner, and guinea pig, Styx, to a tragic car accident. Kane and Styx are business partners in adult "toys" and have come up a new product for the BDSM community. It's a computer chip to enhance the sexual experience but it has to be implanted in the brain. On his deathbed Kane learns that Styx has an identical twin brother, Nex, that gets Kane to thinking he may just have a new guinea pig.
Nex and Styx weren't very close because of Nex' self-destructive behavior. The brothers were seperated from each other at the age of 10. Styx grows up to be a successful entrepreneur and Nex grows up to be an addict. Nex has a gambling problem, a drug problem, and money problems and a best friend that enables him. When Kane offers him an opportunity to turn his money problems around, he jumps at the chance.
The death of Styx,the one person that brought them together could very well be the one person that drives them apart.
Both Kane and Nex have to overcome their own demons and deal with the loss of someone they both loved and come to terms with feelings of betrayal. It was a long road but there is a HEA at the end, so YAY!
The only downside I saw from the story was it really didn't talk about the chip. I mean they spoke of the chip but not in detail, how does it work, where does it go in brain, how did they come up with the idea for it. Just some details I think would have added to the story more. Overall this was a very good story.
